Il 14 ottobre 2022, il rimorchiatore italiano Saraceno Primo del Gruppo CAFIMAR ha condotto un’esercitazione sanitaria con il Pattugliatore Polivalente della Marina Militare Thaon di Revel.
L’esercitazione è stata programmata da CONFITARMA, in collaborazione con l’iniziativa multinazionale europea EMASOH (European-led Maritime Awareness Strait of Hormuz).
Durante l’esercitazione, svoltasi a largo delle coste del Kuwait, è stata simulata un’evacuazione medica dal mare verso un ospedale in terraferma. In questo scenario, al Comando in Capo della Squadra Navale (CINCNAV) è giunta la richiesta di soccorso da parte del Saraceno Primo, relativa ad un membro dell’equipaggio in gravi condizioni. Nave Thaon di Revel, in pattugliamento nell’area interessata dall’incidente, informata dell’urgenza in atto, ha lanciato in volo l’elicottero organico SH-90 verso il rimorchiatore, con un team sanitario a bordo,. Tramite verricello il medico di nave Thaon di Revel è stato trasferito sul ponte del rimorchiatore per assistere il ferito. Valutata la gravità delle lesioni, è stato deciso di evacuare il paziente verso l’ospedale più vicino della regione tramite lo stesso elicottero, in coordinamento con il locale Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).
L’esercitazione congiunta ha consentito di mettere alla prova la capacità di scambiare informazioni tra navi, compagnia di navigazione e autorità governative nonchè di consolidare le procedure standard per far fronte alle emergenze di sicurezza in mare.
Dal 1° settembre nave Thaon di Revel, ultima unità consegnata alla Marina Militare, è schierata nell’area del Golfo quale nave sede di comando (flagship) dell’operazione AGENOR (CTF 474) che, per la prima volta dall’attivazione dell’iniziativa multinazionale, è retta da un ammiraglio italiano.

Italian Navy and Confitarma: virtual medical exercise in the Gulf with a Cafimar Group tugboat
On 14th October 2022, the Italian tug Saraceno Primo (CAFIMAR Group) conducted a medical exercise with Italian Navy Multipurpose Patrol Vessel Thaon di Revel. The medical drill was scheduled by CONFITARMA, the Italian shipping companies association, in conjunction with the European-led initiative Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz (EMASoH).
During the exercise off the coast of Kuwait, a medical evacuation from the tug to a nearby hospital was simulated. In this scenario, a seafarer onboard the tug needed immediate medical assistance, and the nearby navigating Italian warship was informed by Italian Navy Fleet Hq (CINCNAV) about the urgent situation. The Thaon di Revel deployed her SH-90 helicopter with a medical team towards Saraceno Primo. A naval doctor was winched onto the deck of the tug to assist the sailor. Assessing the severity of the injuries, it was decided to evacuate the patient with the helicopter to the nearest hospital in the region in coordination with the local Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).
The objectives of this exercise are both to test information exchange and communications among ships, shipping companies and governmental authorities and to consolidate the standard procedures tailored in order to face safety emergencies at sea and from the sea.
Since Sept. 1st , the newest Italian Navy unit has been deployed in the Gulf area as AGENOR operation (CTF 474) flagship and, for the first time since the activation, the multinational initiative is led by an Italian admiral.
