ECSA has participated to two studies on maritime spatial planning (MSP) commissioned by DG for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission. These studies are taking place in the framework of implementation of Directive 2014/89 establishing a common framework for MSP in Europe, which provides that Member States have to develop their national plans by 2021.
The studies were published in May:
1) “Cross-border consultation on Maritime Spatial plans”
The study describes best practices for how to conduct effective neighbour-to-neighbour consultation on a maritime spatial plan.
2) “Addressing conflicting spatial demands in MSP”
The study analyses what planners could do to address various cross-sectoral spatial conflicts, and provide suggestions for MSP planning solutions to prevent future conflicts among sectors.
